Swiss Evangelicals oppose Covid certificate for church entry

The government of Switzerland wants to introduce a Covid-19 certificate by the summer. That would mean that to access places of worship, people must show a certificate to prove that they have been vaccinated or tested. Swiss Evangelicals protest the proposal.

The Swiss Evangelical Alliance (RES) writes in a [statement](https://evangelique.ch/certificat-covid-19-un-controle-dentree-porterait-atteinte-a-la-liberte-religieuse/

) that such a measure would be “disproportional, as Evangelical churches already implemented preventive measures from the start of the pandemic.”

According to the RES, worship is an expression of their religious freedom to assemble. Identity checks of any kind should not regulate that. The Alliance does not want to be obliged to deny people entry to churches, “simply because they cannot present their ID card and COVID-19 certificate.”

The RES concludes by saying that Evangelical churches have consistently been developing protective measures since the start of the pandemic. According to the Alliance, these measures work: “Only one case of a small cluster with infections started during an Evangelical worship in French-speaking Switzerland.”
